US - KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii – October 15th, 2005 was a record breaking day in the history of Ironman and Aqua Sphere.
With little wind and a gentle swell; the 2005 Ironman Championship got off to a quick start. All 2000 athletes who were wearing Aqua Sphere/Ford Ironman swim caps, turned the calm waters off Kona into the washing machine which is the swim start of this epic competition.
Swim caps were not the only Aqua Sphere products in the water that morning. As the triathletes' preferred gear, Aqua Sphere masks and goggles were seen on over 50% of the athletes.
As the official swim sponsor of the Ford Ironman Championships, Aqua Sphere is proud to congratulate all the finishers of this year's very fast race in which 16 of 26 men's and women's age group records fell.
Special congratulations go to Aqua Sphere athlete Faris Al-Sultan, who took first place with a time of 8:14:17.
Wearing the Seal XP swim mask, Faris swam a fast 2.4 miles in 49:54 to finish second out of the water and into T2, where a strong bike and run carried him into the lead, and to the win.
"I don't believe it," Al-Sultan said, burying his face in his hands moments after crossing the finish line. "It's so incredible."
