 Aqua Sphere sponsored triathletes Bella Comerford and Stephen Bayliss, Britain’s Ironcouple, are today celebrating sizzling victories respectively at the Ibiza HOMEDEFERRO long course triathlon (4k swim, 115k Bike, 30K run) which also doubled as this year’s Spanish Long Course Championships.
Comerford (www.bellacomerford.com) commented on her win, “I had a great race, feeling strong the whole way. I got into the main pack in the swim, whilst 2 girls got way. It got really rough out in the middle of the sea, so it was hard, but I stayed with them.
She continued, “I felt great on the bike, smooth and strong, and got into the lead by 50km and just kept riding hard and gained a 7 minute advantage going into the run. Feeling great, I let the hammer drop and pulled away winning by 27 minutes in the end!”
And concluded with “Stephen and I are both pretty happy! It is the first time we have ever both won a race at the same time.”
Meanwhile Bayliss (www.stephenbayliss.net) commenting on his race said, “I had a great swim coming out own my own in the lead by 30sec after attacking whilst running on the beach at the 1st lap turn around point. I carried this advantage through to end of the bike with 2 German guys and a lot of Spaniards not too far behind.
He continued, “The run started great, I opened up a 1min advantage only to start to struggle and had problem with my guts, and slipped to 3rd, I was over 2 minutes down on 1st at the midway point but I started to feel better just before the last lap with 9km to go, so I gave it everything and caught the leader in the last 1km and pulled away a 1 minute advantage at the finish line.”
The result, their first mutual winning day show that for Bayliss and Comerford the summer spent with their coach Brett Sutton in Switzerland is paying off and their form looks devastatingly good going into their last two races of the year, the Florida Ironman and the ITU World Long Course Championships.
